NEAR DARK REVISITED
Bill Paxton and Jenette Goldstein stopped by New Beverly Cinema on Thursday, May 6, 2010, to introduce a screening of “Near Dark.” It was a vampire-western horror hybrid made back in 1987 by Kathryn Bigelow, and it was being shown as a double feature with her Oscar winning triumph, “The Hurt Locker.” It was not a sold out showing that evening, but that ended up making the evening more intimate for those who showed up. Paxton looked especially happy to be there as he was astonished that there was actually a print of this movie still in existence.
Paxton went on to describe “Near Dark” as being a “Bonnie & Clyde” vampire movie with excellent music. Tangerine Dream composed the movie’s score and the movie is filled with other memorable musical selections. There was that great cover of “Fever” by The Cramps which was used in the pivotal bar scene where everything gets turned into a bloodbath. But Paxton said his favorite piece of music used was “Naughty, Naughty” by John Parr as it really sets the scene for when the vampires end up depriving a saloon in the middle of nowhere of its customers and employees.

“St. Elmo's Fire” & The Simpsons
The Austin Chronicle's top eleven Simpsons episodes includes John Parr's iconic St. Elmo's Fire.
On Thursday 21st August 2014, FXX launches an historic TV marathon, airing all 25 seasons of The Simpsons back to back to back. But since most of us can’t sit out work for 12 days straight to watch reruns, and recording 552 episodes would break even the hardiest of DVRs, The Austin Chronicle has whittled down the field to 11 not to miss.
Included in the list of epsiodes not to miss is “Sideshow Bob Roberts” (season 6, episode 5 - airs Saturday, Aug. 23, 2:30pm FXX).Josh Kupecki of The Austin Chronicle writes:
“The Simpsons nail political satire in this prescient episode, which sees Sideshow Bob getting released from prison thanks to conservative talk radio host and Rush Limbaugh lookalike Birch Barlow. He then mounts a successful mayoral campaign to oust Mayor Quimby, backed by a cadre of Republicans (including Mr. Burns and Rainier Wolfcastle, naturally), so it’s up to Bart and Lisa to uncover potential electoral fraud. The writing in this ep is top notch, with a slew of references to Willie Horton, the Nixon/Kennedy debate, All the President’s Men, and, of course, Matlock. This episode also marks the first use of the word “meh” on the show, and, with the inclusion of John Parr’s “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion)” cements “Sideshow Bob Roberts” as a bona fide classic.“

PETE WAY's New Solo Album.
SLASH, NIKKI SIXX To Guest On Former UFO Bassist PETE WAY's New Solo Album.
Former UFO, OZZY OSBOURNE and WAYSTED bassist Pete Way, who was recently given the all-clear after a battle with prostate cancer, is preparing to resume work on his upcoming solo album, "Walking On The Edge", which is tentatively due in early 2015. Way's first solo studio effort since 2007's "Acoustic Animal" is being helmed by producer/engineer Mike Clink, who has previously worked with GUNS N' ROSES and METALLICA.
Way tells Classic Rock magazine: "On my first solo album, 'Amphetamine', I wanted to make the songs I had always wanted to in UFO. I thought what's the point in doing the same stuff you do with your band? It was always my ambition to do something more rock.
"On this new album, Slash [GUNS N' ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER] and Nikki Sixx [MÖTLEY CRÜE] play and I've got GUNS N' ROSES producer Mike Clink working with me at John Parr's studio, Somewhere In Yorkshire. Working with these guys is amazing, I mean how many Grammy awards can you get in one room?
"I'm excited about going back, but I have to be very careful not to sing better than I did on the earlier takes as Mike will make me do the whole bloody lot again!"
Way describes the material on "Walking On The Edge" as "in-your-face rock 'n' roll" and says that the lyrical themes covered on the album deal mostly with his drug and alcohol addiction that he finally managed to beat four years ago.

“Pride Of The Isles”
Stars, including the Isle’s own Sheridan Smith and John Parr, joined over 230 people and several storm troopers at Epworth in a heartwarming, sparkling evening of tribute and entertainment.
Extraordinary tales of courage and care, and the people behind them, were celebrated at the first Pride of the Isle Awards, that is now set to be repeated annually.
There was sadness and joy in equal measure as stories of loss, bravery and survival were shared, and awards made to nine special men, women and children.
But the evening, staged for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in memory of the late Alexander Strong of Epworth, kicked off with dance from the ENA Academy, before music from local band The Torn then John Parr, who brought the audience to its feet with an acoustic version of St Elmo’s fire, dedicated to Lexy. Comedy and more guitar came later from Steve Womack.

“The Mission” - Album Released
July 4, 2012 legendary singer/songwriter John Parr releases what is considered by many to be his strongest album to date.
“The Mission” is a heartfelt album with killer riffs and Parr on top form. With 14 great tracks, not a filler in sight, the album includes kicking tracks such as “Big Bad Silverado”, “Fightin' Girl” and “Military Man”. This album represents power, passion and Parr...
“The Mission is inspired by our fighting men and women who put themselves in harms way for our freedom. It is 14 songs covering almost every aspect of the Military but it is not a marching bands record. It's rock, it''s intimate, power and passion, life, love and sacrifice. Much of the proceeds of this album are being donated to 3 incredible Military charities:The USO, Military Families and USA Cares. It is about raising awareness and funds for Military men and women as they make the difficult transition back into ordinary life.”

John Parr Continues To Be A “Man In Motion”
You will not find a more sincere, down to Earth person in the music industry than John Parr, the artist behind 1985’s international mega-hit “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion).” Listeners and fans can be assured that when Parr speaks, writes and sings he does so from the heart.
“I started out very, very young. I use to go to the Saturday morning matinees you know and they use to have talent shows for the kids between the movies,” Parr said.
Parr was six when he began performing and winning the talent shows. As a result, Parr says that, “I use to get into the movies for free”.
“Then I heard the Beatles on the radio and that was it. The Beatles were the thing for me. Made me want to buy a guitar and then music just exploded for me,” Parr recalls.
MTV fans of the 80s will recall the guitar with the American flag that Parr used, most notably in his hit single, “Naughty, Naughty...”

John Parr, Lugosi @ Vinyl Music Hall + Interview
Finally, I saw John Parr’s vision of ”St. Elmo’s Fire.“ Toward the end of a concert full of flashbacks, stories and rock, Parr shared the story of Rick Hansen. The Canadian Paralympian’s passion was the true inspiration for the hit song, ”Not the wheels on Demi Moore’s Jeep” joked Parr during his concert at Vinyl Music Hall.
With video clips of Hansen’s ”Man in Motion World Tour“ projected behind him, Parr performed the song that reached # 1 on the Billboard charts in 1985. Inspirational on it’s own, the song was even more moving as the screen filled with scenes from Hansen’s grueling day-by-day triumphs and struggles. Documenting the pain, the joy and the people who became part of Hansen’s journey, Parr’s lyrics are the perfect compliment...

John Parr Sings Old Hits & New Songs At USO
In an emotional show at the USO of North Carolina-Jacksonville Center, British singer and songwriter John Parr spoke about his deep affection for the military and America, Dec. 3.
"America was the only place that gave me a shot," he said. "When I came during the 1980s, people weren't the way they are now about the military. You wouldn't want to wear your uniform in the streets. It angered me greatly, being British and knowing how much we love our armed forces, to see the military getting a bad rap. I intended then to write songs about the plight of the military."
